Is incense appropriate as a gift or for celebrations?

How should I dispose of incense ash?

The ash left after burning incense can be thrown away as combustible waste. To prevent it from scattering due to wind or drafts, dispose of it regularly.

What’s the difference between “Goreizen” (御霊前) and “Gobutsuzenn” (御仏前)?

Generally, “Goreizen” is used from the day of passing up to the 49th day (the period of mourning). After the 49th day memorial service, “Gobutsuzen” is used. If you are unsure of the date of passing, writing “Osonae” (御供, meaning offering) is appropriate.

Should I choose different scents depending on the situation?

In shared spaces like offices where many people work, it's best to avoid strong or distinctive scents. The scent that comes to mind first as one that is loved by everyone is sandalwood.
